Jaguars HC Doug Pederson will 100 percent be on the team plane
In his introductory press conference, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson made it clear he won’t settle for anything less than a Super Bowl. He also made it be known that he wants to really help his players be their best and put them in a position to be successful. So what else should the Jags expect from their new head coach? Flying back with the team.
Not long ago, media personality Rich Eisen said in his podcast that he believed Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich was the perfect fit for the Jaguars. On the other hand, Eisen likes the Pederson hire and talks about all the positives that he brings to the table, including his experience as a former NFL player himself and his success as an offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs and later as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Eisen goes on to talk about the things Pederson will and won’t do in Jacksonville.
"I can guarantee you this. He will 100 percent be on the team plane flying home and he will not kick his kicker, he will not reach out to somebody you coached in college and say, “come on in and try out for us”. He will not do anything that Urban Meyer did. And he’ll serve ice cream on Saturday nights and he will absolutely be a pleasure to be around."
Meyer turn the Jaguars into a dysfunctional mess, which is surprising that they were coming off a 1-15 season and it was hard to envision them getting even worse than they were in 2020. But that’s what Meyer achieve in his short tenure in Jacksonville. Having Pederson brings stability and credibility to a franchise that is in need of both and should have no trouble setting the bar significantly higher than his predecessor did.
Doug Pederson will keep the Jaguars out of the spotlight.
You could argue that all publicity regardless of the kind is good but the Meyer got the Jaguars under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Getting caught getting cozy with a young woman at a bar in Ohio is probably the most infamous moment of his stint in Duval but it wasn’t the only one of many. Allegedly kicking Josh Lambo comes to mind and telling his coaching staff they need to defend their resume is another. Who can forget his fondness for talking about playing against the Phoenix Cardinals even though that team hasn’t existed in more than two decades?
Then, there’s Meyer’s disdain for playing James Robinson. He first said he wasn’t aware his star running back was benched only to contradict himself once he was fired and accept that he did give the order.
Under Pederson, the Jaguars will remain as low-key as possible and will focus on working until they get better. He will accomplish everything Meyer was supposed to but never did. As owner Shad Khan told the media, he got the hiring right, he was just off by one year.
