After the Jacksonville Jaguars announced they had hired Doug Pederson as their head coach, Trevor Lawrence heard that his new coach likes ice cream and went on to say that he had something in store for him, “heard a rumor Coach Pederson likes ice cream – Say less. I’ve got a little something for y’all tomorrow!”. He delivered on his promise and got his new head coach some ice cream.

Before the Jaguars’ introduced Pederson as the head coach, their social media team posted a picture of a message that read “Haagen Dazs Ice Cream from Trevor“. Although it may have been a small detail, it goes to show Trevor is all in Pederson as his head coach. Right after the team announced the hiring, he posted a welcome message on social media, “Let’s get to work – Welcome to #DUUUVAL! Great days ahead”.

It’s great to see Lawrence be on board with Pederson’s hire. The number one priority for the Jaguars this offseason was to get someone that can help the former Clemson Tiger live up to his draft billing and develop into an upper-echelon quarterback. In fact, he is arguably the player that will benefit the most from his hiring.

After all, Pederson played a big role in helping Carson Went play at an MVP-like level in 2017 and won the Super Bowl that year with Nick Foles after Wentz tore his ACL.  The hope is that he can help Lawrence take the next step in Year 2.

The Jaguars now need to surround Trevor Lawrence with talent.

When the Jaguars hired Doug Pederson, they checked off an item in their offseason to-do list. Now that they got that out of the way, they need to make sure Trevor Lawrence is in a position to succeed. As owner Shad Khan and general Baalke said during Pederson’s introductory press conference, this won’t be an overnight fix but they have the resources to make significant changes this offseason.

The Jags will have 12 draft picks, including four in the first three rounds, and around $60 million in cap space. That is more than enough to fortify the roster and get Lawrence some weapons on offense. Of course, the front office has to also address some needs on defense but their number one priority will be to put their franchise quarterback in a position to succeed.

The Jaguars have their work cut out this offseason but having more than enough ice cream should make it bearable.
