Laquon Treadwell gives Jaguars early lead, scores 1st TD with team
The first thing that stood out when watching the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Indianapolis Cols was the number of fans wearing clown gear to show their dissatisfaction with the decision to keep Trent Baalke. The second was how productive wide receiver Marvin Jones was in the first drive of the game. Last but not least, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell scored his first touchdown with the Black and Teal.
Treadwell has been one of the most productive players on the Jaguars’ offense since signing to the active roster in November. Since Week 12, he’s caught at least four passes in every game. The only thing he was missing was his first touchdown reception of the season and he got it on a 2-yeard grab early in the first quarter. Early in the drive, he was flagged for a false start but the penalty didn’t have an impact on the drive even though it was third-and-10 as Trevor Lawrence went on to connect with Jones for a 12-yard gain.
Speaking of Jones, the veteran wide receiver was on fire in the Jaguars’ first possession. He entered the game with 66 receptions for 744 yards and three touchdowns. He needed four catches to get a $500,000 bonus incentive. In the first drive, he hauled in passes of 16, 12, and 17 yards. He’s one short to reach the incentive but should have no trouble getting it later in the game. Lawrence went 8-of-8 for 83 yards and the 2-yard touchdown.
Will the Jaguars pull off the upset against the Colts?
The Jags were a 15-point underdog before the game and it’s too early to tell how things are going to play out. Having said that, Jacksonville is off to a good start. They scored in their first drive and got the ball back after the Colts turned the ball over on downs. If they can continue to move the chains and keep mistakes to a minimum, they may have a chance to keep Indy’s losing streak at TIAA Bank Field alive.
