Tim Tebow shines in studio debut, thinks Lawrence will have great career
After his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tim Tebow joined ESPN’s morning show First Take as a cohost. In his debut, the former NFL quarterback discussed several topics, including quarterback Trevor Lawrence‘s chances of living up to his draft billing.
Tebow was sharp in his studio debut. He touched on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener and also weighed in on Lawrence. He looked confident when sharing his opinion and made several smart points. The 25th overall pick in 2010, along with hosts Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim Rose, discussed whether the Jaguars’ rookie quarterback will live up to the number-one pick hype. Here’s the clip if you want to watch it.
"Trevor absolutely will live up to the hype. He’s got an unbelievable talent. He’s got a great mindset. I think he’s a great young man. Everything about him, it was a joy playing with him. It’s a pleasure being around him. He is a really good kid. I think he’s gonna handle the pressure. I think he’s gonna handle Jacksonville. Jacksonville already is in love with him. He’s got a great wife, he’s got a great situation. He’s fitting into the city. Urban’s going to try to do everything to support him. I think he’s gonna have a great career."
This isn’t the first time Tebow has had a job as an analyst. Hes’ previously appeared as a co-host of SEC Nation, so it’s not surprising to see him thrive in his return to the broadcast studio. The The2010 first-round pick enjoyed great success at Florida, where he won the Heisman Trophy and helped the Gators two BCS National Championships. However, he struggled in the NFL and was out of the league after only three seasons. After a couple of failed tryouts, he decided to give baseball a shot.
The last few months have been hectic for Tim Tebow.
After putting an end to his baseball career, Tim Tebow discussed with Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer the possibility of joining the team. He ended up signing in late May and spent the summer making the switch from quarterback to tight end. He put his head down, got to work, and avoided being a distraction.
Although there was encouragement early on, the transition proved to be too much and the Jags ended up releasing Tebow in the first round of roster cuts. Time wasn’t simply on his side, had he made the move to tight end early in his pro career, he might’ve pulled it. But keeping him on the roster in favor of a young player with higher upside was not feasible. After his release, Tebow thanked the organization for giving him the opportunity to attempt a comeback but didn’t spend much time dwelling on the past.
Not long after, Tebow joined First Take as a host. More recently, he got the attention of YouTube sensation Jake Paul. The influencer-turned-fighter tweeted it was time for the two-time SEC Player of the Year to get into boxing. Tebow quickly responded and said that fighting wasn’t on his list of priorities.
Tebow’s tenure in Jacksonville didn’t end the way he surely wanted. However, he’s the kind of person that doesn’t let failure deter him from giving his best. In the end, his hard work has paid off and is up to a good start as a studio host.
