Tebow Mania is fun but not practical. That’s why the Jacksonville Jaguars need to upgrade their tight end room and Jessee James is a solid alternative.

New Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has made some polarizing personnel decisions, to say the least, this offseason. Meyer has proven unpredictable, whether it was the Chris Doyle fiasco or drafting former Clemson running back Travis Etienne in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jags’ most recent miscue might’ve been extending a contract offer to former Florida Gator Tim Tebow. The 2010 first-round pick joins the Jacksonville organization under heavy media scrutiny as a seemingly futile solution to solve the Black and Teal’s need at tight end.

After an interview with one of the NFL’s most respected media affiliates, Rich Eisen, it is evident that Tebow is being brought into the organization more so for the locker room and leadership purposes. With that being said, the ‘Jags’ still have a dire need at the position. With the draft over and free-agency entering the dog days of summer, there a limited options available. However, one of them can alleviate the struggle sooner rather than later.

Jesse James can be a vital role player for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.

Tight end Jesse James has spent his career with both the Pittsburgh Steelers and, most recently, the Detroit Lions. The 6’7″ Pennsylvania native isn’t a household name but he would provide an instant target on both third-down and red-zone situations.

As you can see above, the sixth-year veteran is a physical receiving option that can prove to be a valuable asset when a play breaks down while his quarterback is looking to make a play. New Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is one of the best draft prospects in NFL history at both improvising and making off-platform throws on the run.

James may only have nine career touchdowns, but he is a reliable player — he has appeared in 16 games five straight seasons — that has been sparsely utilized over the last six years. For a tight end room looking for contributors, the Jaguars can gain a valuable piece late in free agency by signing the former Penn State Nittany Lion.
