Jacksonville Jaguars post-draft running back power rankings
These are the Jacksonville Jaguars’ top 3 running backs ahead of training camp.
3) Carlos Hyde
You might not have the fondest memories of Carlos Hyde, as he didn’t do much of note in his first stint in Duval. After coming back this offseason, he acknowledged in a sit-down with the local media that he wasn’t going through his best moment. On the other hand, the Ohio State standout has been a solid running back throughout his career, appearing in 90 games with 58 starts and racking up 1,153 carries and 4,726 yards, and 36 touchdowns.
While James Robinson and Travis Etienne will have most of the workload in 2021, Hyde could spell them from time to time and even start in case injuries decimate the Jaguars’ running back room.
2) Travis Etienne
Despite the fact that drafting a running back in the first round may not be the best investment, the bottom line is that this Jacksonville team now has a dual threat that can have an instant impact in both the running and passing games. Even if Robinson gets the majority of the carries, Travis Etienne will have a key role on offense.
Do you think the Jaguars’ brass took a running back with the 25th overall pick just to keep him on the bench? That’s highly unlikely and if the team drafted Etienne, it was because they expect him to become a difference-maker.
1) James Robinson
While Etienne could see his role increase down the stretch, Robinson is currently the Jags’ workhorse running back. Last season, the Illinois State standout was one of the few bright spots on the roster and stood out even though the team lost 15 consecutive games.
Robinson will still have a big role in 2021, and with better talent on offense and a franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville should be able to extend more drives and score more often.
