The Jacksonville Jaguars will have yet another option in 2021’s draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have removed the interim tag from Trent Baalke’s job description and have made him their general manager on a permanent basis. They can now focus on the direction the team will take and the players they will evaluate ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. They now have one more prospect to scout, as Ohio State linebacker Baron Browning has entered the process.

The Buckeyes linebacker recently announced on social media his decision to declare for the draft. Although he could have returned to Ohio State for a fifth year due to an NCAA rule that granted him an extra year of eligibility, he opted to enter the selection meeting.

The Ohio State product has the physical prowess to thrive in the NFL and played in different linebacker spots in his collegiate career. Despite the fact he may need to polish some areas of his games, especially against the run, he can generate pressure upfront and could end becoming a value pick in the draft. He logged 72 total tackles (14 for a loss), six sacks, two passes defensed and two forced fumbles in his last 18 college games.

The Jacksonville Jaguars could use Baron Browning.

The Jaguars have a couple of studs in Joe Schobert and Myles Jack but they need a third linebacker to solidify the unit. It’s unlikely Browning will get drafted in the first round like Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of Notre Dame or Dylan Moses of Alabama. Nevertheless, he could be worth a pick later in the process.

If Jacksonville prioritizes other position groups in the first round and early in the second, they could target the Ohio State product with the 45th selection, which they got from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for Yannick Ngakoue in 2020. Also, they could target Browing if they can’t land a free agent such as Texans linebacker Tyrell Adams in the open market.

The ‘Jags’ have their work cut off and will need to make plenty of changes if they want to start winning again. This year’s draft will be one of the most important ones in franchise history and they need to start preparing their board. Browning is a name they should include on it.
