The Jacksonville Jaguars trade for Carson Wentz in this scenario.

After watching Mike Glennon getting benched in favor of sophomore Gardner Minshew II, it’s clear the Jacksonville Jaguars need to upgrade their quarterback position. They could certainly use the second overall pick in 2021’s draft to select a prospect such as Justin Fields or Zach Wilson, but they could also trade for a veteran with a proven track record such as Carson Wentz.

The Philadelphia Eagles benched Went and gave the starting nod to rookie Jalen Hurts in Week 14 and won. Even though the team has already said they intend to keep the quarterback next season, it could all be smoke and mirrors and the announcement could be just a move to prevent his trade value from dipping.

Trading for Wentz wouldn’t be cost-prohibitive. Since the team that acquires the quarterback would take the burden of his salary off the Eagles, a couple of mid-round picks, maybe a third and a fourth-round selection would likely get a trade done.

If the Jaguars pulled the trigger on a trade, they would get Wentz on an affordable, four-year $98.4 million deal. It’s true that he’s struggled in 2020, but he has played at a high level in previous years, and if this Jacksonville team trades for him, they could allocate their two first-round picks on other needs they need to address.
