Jacksonville Jaguars: Analyst in favor of trade for Jamal Adams
By David Levin
NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt believes the Jacksonville Jaguars should try to acquire New York Jets safety Jamal Adams this offseason.
Apparently, I am not the only one who thinks the Jacksonville Jaguars should try to work a deal with the New York Jets for safety Jamal Adams.
Gil Brandt of NFL.com lists the Jaguars as one of his five teams that should reach out to Jets general manager Joe Adams to test the waters.
Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, and Seattle are also on his shortlist. It’s interesting he lists Jacksonville as the only team from the AFC.

"“As I wrote above, the Jets should expect at least a first-round pick in return for Adams, which might make this potential deal too rich for a Jaguars team that, on paper, looks ticketed for a top-10 draft choice in 2021,” Brandt writes. “And that’s setting aside the fact that Jacksonville is the one team here that does not appear on Adams’ reported wish list.”"
Adams, who reportedly wants to wear a Cowboys uniform in 2020, produced a shortlist of his own of teams he would like to play for. If general manager David Caldwell were to pull this off – and it would be a long shot – the trade package would need to over and above what other teams would offer.
The Jacksonville Jaguars do have two first-round draft picks in 2021. That could entice the Jets to open trade discussions. The Jaguars should have plenty of cap space following the 2020 season to sign Adams, who was the sixth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, to a long-term deal.
"“But you could argue that Adams would be worth the investment for a group looking to grow, instantly lifting a secondary that will otherwise be relying on rookie C.J. Henderson to shoulder a significant amount of the load. The Jaguars haven’t fielded a true impact safety since Rashean Mathis’ heyday,” Brandt adds."
Since joining the NFL three seasons ago, Adams has delivered as one of the best first-round picks of the draft class. He is a two-time Pro Bowl player (2018, 2019), a First-team All-Pro (2019), a second-team All-Pro (2018), and was on the PFWA All-Rookie Team (2017).
He immediately becomes the leader of the secondary and would play opposite Ronnie Harrison who is poised to have a major impact on the defense in what will be his third season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Something worth watching is whether the Jacksonville Jaguars or any other team in the NFL is able to acquire Adams, will there be player compensation as well as a draft pick? If that is the case, then the initial story I wrote about a trade for Adams makes more sense.
The Jacksonville Jaguars could package disgruntled pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue as part of a deal involving Adams. Ngakoue has repeatedly asked the team’s front office to move him prior to the start of the 2020 regular season.
