Three veterans on the Jacksonville Jaguars offense fighting for a roster spot
The Jacksonville Jaguars once again are going through a rebuilding phase. Here are three veteran players on the offensive side of the ball who could be fighting to stay on the roster this season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars offense has been very inconsistent in the past. Last season the young core of the team showed a lot of promise. Going into this season Jacksonville made some very good draft picks with players like wide receiver Laviska Shenault and offensive lineman Ben Bartch – players with tons of potential.
With these moves, the Jaguars once again appear to be going through a rebuild Many of the veteran players on the team are at a point where if they do not show some serious promise they could find themselves cut or traded during the 2020 season.
Here are three players who could be on the bubble for a roster spot during the 2020 season.

Cam Robinson – Left Tackle
I truly feel for Cam Robinson. He isn’t a bad player, but being the left tackle on the offensive line, there is more responsibility to protect the quarterback. Robinson is just a season removed from season-ending knee surgery, and that seemed to affect his play last season because he just seemed to be a step slower than we were used to seeing.
He is a young player who still has a lot of talent. Many even are calling for him to switch to the inside and play guard. This is a possibility, especially after Jacksonville opted to take left tackle Ben Bartch in the 4th round. Robinson, however, is more of a power player, and using him as a pulling guard might not be his strong suit. Hopefully, after another offseason to recover from his knee injury he will be more productive.
Andrew Norwell – Left Tackle
To say the signing of Andrew Norwell has been a disappointment would be an understatement. When the Jacksonville Jaguars decided to make him the highest-paid guard in the NFL after the 2017 season, Norwell was expected to transform this offensive line.
It did not happen. Unfortunately, the opposite seems to be true. Norwell is arguably the weak link in a below average unit. Far too often he whiffs on his blocks and allows for defensive players to make big plays. Perhaps with Jay Gruden coming in and presumably implementing more of a zone run scheme, he will return to the player he was in Carolina.
If not, perhaps another lineman like Robinson or Bartch could move inside at guard, and Norwell would be moved in a trade to clear up some cap space.
Keelan Cole – Wide Receiver
This pains me to say, but after drafting two wide receivers, veteran Keelan Cole may find it tough to find a roster spot for Jacksonville next season.
The Jaguars are packed at receiver and it’s a bit of a log jam full of solid veteran players. There is no true number two star receiver. DJ Chark is the clear No. 1, Dede Westbrook is assumed to be safe, Chris Conley had a solid season, and both the rookies Shenault and Collin Johnson are going to find themselves on the roster.
Unless Cole has a fantastic offseason and blows coaches away, he may be the an odd man out on offense. It is unfortunate because he does have a lot of talent. He should be able to find himself on another roster in a position to get more play time then he would in Jacksonville.
