The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to add more pieces to their defense with the announcement they have signed Aaron Lynch to play OLB/DE.

Once again, the Jacksonville Jaguars have added to their defensive line as the team has announced the signing of Aaron Lynch an OLB/DE who can play multiple positions in the team’s 4-3 defensive scheme this season.

Adding to the team’s pass rush has been a common theme this offseason and the organization traded Calais Campbell to the Baltimore Ravens for a fifth-round draft pick in last weekend’s NFL Draft and could trade Yannick Nagkoue, who still has not signed his franchise tag tender of $17.8M.

The Jaguars added yet another pass rusher in the Draft last weekend when they selected K’Lavon Chaisson to team with last year’s top pick, Josh Allen, who led the team with 10.5 sacks and made the Pro Bowl.

Lynch gives defensive coordinator Todd Wash more versatility in his scheme, whether it is to line the veteran up with his hand on the ground or put him in space as a 3-4 linebacker.

Team head coach Doug Marrone told the media last week the team will implement more 3-4 packages on defense to take advantage of speed from the outside. The Jacksonville Jaguars finished seventh in the NFL in sacks in 2019. In the first wave of free agency, they also signed Cassius Marsh who can also play rush end or outside linebacker.

"As reported by ESPN.com, “The signing of Lynch, 27, is another indication the Jaguars are going to use more 3-4 looks in 2020; the team has run the 4-3 defense since coach Gus Bradley was hired in 2013. Todd Wash came to Jacksonville from Seattle with Bradley as the defensive line coach and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2016, and coach Doug Marrone retained Wash as the defensive coordinator when he was hired in 2017.”"

While speed on the outside has been a concern for the Jaguars this offseason, finding bodies to help plug the middle of the interior line has also a key focal point. Veteran Al Woods was signed from Seattle to become a space-eater and help the run defense that all but fell apart last season.

"Per Jaguars.com, the former South Florida star, “Was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 73 career games (22 starts) and totaled 105 tackles, 20.0 sacks, 35 tackles for loss and 10 passes defensed.”"

Last season, Lynch was a part of the Chicago Bears defense. He played in all 16 games where he had six tackles, two sacks and two passes defensed.
