Even with all the moves the team made in the offseason and the 2020 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars remain last in NFL.com’s most recent power rankings.

The Jacksonville Jaguars remain at the bottom of the most recent NFL.com power rankings despite a solid draft class that should help the team if not immediately, then in the near future.

It’s hard to see this team getting any respect, despite the additions to the team’s roster until they do what good teams do – win football games consistently. Regardless of draft grades that are in the affirmative, this is a team that has begun rebuilding its defense brick by brick and will overhaul its offense thanks to a coordinator in Jay Gruden.

"“The Jaguars are starting over, and the draft focused on defense at the top. Cornerback C.J. Henderson (No. 9 overall) is an important add to a secondary that lost both Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye over the course of six months,” writes Dan Hanzus. “K’Lavon Chaisson, selected 20th overall, was one of the best pass rushers in this class and could fill the void if/when the team finds a trade suitor for Yannick Ngakoue.”"

OK, we get it. State the obvious. But there were some solid picks in this class, especially given the fact general manager David Caldwell used all 12 of the team’s picks when he hinted there would be movement up and down the draft board just a week ago. Now, the Jaguars must infuse the new talent with the existing players on the roster and hope that change is for the better. It’s a big chance this team took this offseason. Everyone in the building and the fan base hopes it pays off in a big way.

That payoff is likely at least two seasons away.

Jacksonville did not break the bank adding free agents Joe Schobert to play middle linebacker, Rodney Gunter, and Al Woods to play on the interior of the defense and Rashaan Melvin to join the secondary. Cassius Marsh could be an underrated find as an outside linebacker and edge rusher.

And the addition of tight end Tyler Eifert could be a boom or bust type of deal. Hanzus also reiterates how the front office appears committed to the growth of their second-year quarterback in a rebuild that won’t lead this team back to the playoffs in 2020.

"“The Jags did not select a quarterback with any of their nine picks in the first five rounds, more evidence that Gardner Minshew will get a full-season audition to be The Man. 2020 will be an audition for a lot of people in Jacksonville,” he adds."

Like it or not, until the Jacksonville Jaguars show some life as it did in 2017, there will be more stories like this. The front office did a solid job in the draft and could move more players – Yannick Ngakoue and Leonard Fournette – prior to the start of the 2020 season. Change is still in the air in Jacksonville.
