The Jacksonville Jaguars add more depth on defense in Round 4
By David Levin
After helping the offensive line with their first pick in the fourth round, the Jacksonville Jaguars once again address their defensive needs.
The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to see a need on the defensive side of the football and added two more draft picks in the fourth round with cornerback Josiah Scott form Michigan and inside linebacker Shaquille Quarterman from the University of Miami.
The Jaguars had three fourth-round picks, which was started by the selection of Ben Bartch from St. John’s (MINN). Scott is also the second cornerback the team selected after making Florida’s C.J. Henderson their first pick in the first round.
The moves in the fourth round now leave the Jaguars with five picks left in the next three rounds of the Draft today.

"“Affectionately nicknamed “The Gnat” by teammates for his pesky, persistent coverage talent and playing style,” writes Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.“He has no issues checking athletic boxes with quick feet, smooth hips and explosive speed. He has above-average recovery burst and athleticism, so he should be able to make the move to the slot despite limited reps there.”"
The Jaguars certainly need the depth in the secondary after the team traded cornerback A.J. Bouye to Denver earlier in the offseason. The team sent Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams during the season last year.
Zierlein is impressed with his coverage skills, which should help him on the next level.
"“He has ballhawking traits and coverage talent is not an issue. His ability to stay healthy and overcome his size/strength limitations could be the difference between being a starting nickel or solid backup,” he added."
In Quarterman, the Jaguars are getting a heavy hitter and toughness in the middle of the defense that lacked consistent tackling throughout the season under defensive coordinator Todd Wash. Also, the Quarterman pick was made with the draft pick obtained in the deal with the Chicago Bears for quarterback Nick Foles.
The Jaguars added to their linebacking corps this offseason with the addition of Joe Schobert from Cleveland to play in the middle and Cassius Marsh, who plays on the outside and can also play on the line as an edge rusher.
"“Four-year starter and team leader with a physical demeanor and impressive level of production,” Zierlein writes. “Quarterman is durable and dependable in the middle of the defense.”"
Quarterman may also be a factor for the Jaguars on special teams. At 6-foot and 234 pounds, he will be part of the team’s linebacker rotation that will look different in 2020.
