The Jacksonville Jaguars lost defensive back Jalen Ramsey and will likely lose defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. The team began the rebuild by replacing the two former stars.

The draft was progressing toward the Jacksonville Jaguars pick at number nine. The first fie=ve players on just about every draft board were going in order.  Joe Burrows, Chase Young,  and Jeffrey Okudah went in order. Andrew Thomas was chosen fourth in place of Tristan Wirfs.

That was a good sign.

Next off the board was Tua Tagovailoa to the Miami Dolphins.  Wow, the Jaguars were going to get one of the best players in the draft.  Then… with the ninth pick, the Jaguars select C.J. Henderson cornerback.  Who? I looked at my board and he was No.15.  Why didn’t they pick Wirfs?  But, as time went on I realized we lost both Ramsey and Bouye and had only Tre Herndon.

Ok, now the pick made some sense. On to the Jaguars pick at No. 20.

Maybe this time they will pick an offensive lineman or a defensive tackle.  Nope, not this time. They picked an edge rusher/linebacker, K’Lavon Chaisson from LSU.  The Jaguars need to replace Yannick Ngakoue even though he’s not officially. Calais Campbell was traded to Baltimore this offseason. The defense needs someone on the other side of pass rusher Josh Allen.

Ok, I can deal with this.

My choice, if I were the Jacksonville Jaguars general manager would be to build from within the trenches. Obviously, Jaguars’brain’s trust decided to replace two stars at a position of need. The bad news is they don’t agree with me. The good news is that both picks are very solid proven stars. No reaching for athleticism with no football IQ. The Jaguars need help now and these guys should provide it and start immediately.

More from Jacksonville Jaguars News

They are SEC players from teams with solid coaching and winning traditions.  Hopefully, they will bring a winning attitude to Jacksonville.

C.J. Henderson from the University of Florida is 6’ 1” and 204 pounds. He has good size and ran the 40 40-yard dash in an impressive 4.39 seconds. He is a hard worker and described as a competitive guy who wants to be the very best.  First on the practice field and last off is another plus.

K’Lavon Chaisson was part of LSU’s National Title team.  He is 6’ 4” and weighs 249 pounds. He is more of a linebacker than a defensive end in size but has room to grow. The Jacksonville Jaguars may use him exclusively as an edge rusher or he has the capability to be a three-down player. He is also effective against the run.

Chaisson is quick off the snap and can also defend tight ends in the passing game.  He has multiple skills and can be used in multiple ways. The team’s defensive coordinator Todd Wash will love him.

So, after I talked myself off the ledge I decided that I like these two picks by the Jacksonville Jaguars. I only ask one thing – please draft some linemen in the next rounds of the draft.

Next. The Jaguars move on with Day 2 of the NFL Draft. dark
