After a night where defensive needs were addressed will the Jacksonville Jaguars help the offensive side of the ball in Rounds 2 and 3 of the NFL Draft?

Yes, it’s a youth movement and the Jacksonville Jaguars are building it position by position. At least on defense as they used their two first-round picks to fortify the team’s pass rush and help add a shutdown cornerback in the secondary.

Welcome C.J Henderson and K’Lavon Chaisson to DUUUVAL as the team got two studs from the SEC, presumably to usher in a new regime in Jacksonville.

"“With the Jaguars holding 12 picks, including the ninth and 20th overall selections, this was a chance to inject some juice into a franchise in the midst of a radical roster overhaul,” wrote Michael Silver of NFL.com. “Only two seasons removed from a narrow AFC championship game defeat to the New England Patriots, amid rampant skepticism, the Jags are on an ambitious mission to claw their way back into contention with a younger, more cohesive and less decorated cast.”"

Gone are impact veterans Calais Campbell, A.J. Bouye, Marcell Dareus, and the controversial Jalen Ramsey. The team lower its salary cap, added free agents to help the pass rush, in the middle of the defense, and on the backline. They even added a tight end who is familiar with new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden’s scheme. This is all part of the plan that hopefully works this coming season.

Now, there needs to be a concentrated effort on Day 2 to add weapons on offense and solidify the offensive line. The Jaguars, who will make their first selection at No. 42, may have to move up once again in the second round to secure a pass-catcher. Denzel Mims of Baylor might be the best prospect on the board. Josh Jones, a tackle out of Houston should still be on their radar as well. And there are still running backs to be had, with D’Andrew Swift and J.K. Dobbins waiting to hear their names called.

"“I love it when a plan comes together,” general manager David Caldwell said from his home in Ponte Vedra, Fla., “Rush and cover — we need to be able to do that, right? And to get a guy that was No. 4 on our list in that (20th) spot, that’s more than you can expect.”"

So far, the game plan is working – at least for the front office. The fan base, judging by their reactions across social media, wanted the team to look to offense first and then aid the defense that had already been bandaged in free agency.

The Jaguars still have 10 picks to work with and two tonight. One thing they have to still consider is what to do with defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, the disgruntled pass rusher who went on a social media tirade this week prior to the Draft in an attempt to force the team to trade him.

There had been reports the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders had been negotiating a deal to move the 25-year-old star, but nothing came of it. Caldwell said those reports were exaggerated, per a story by Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com.

"“I think his options are very limited at this point in time,” Caldwell said. “We’ll welcome him back with open arms when he’s ready to come back, and we look forward to it.”"
