Could the sudden fall of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa force the Jacksonville Jaguars to readjust their draft plans next week?

Would the Jacksonville Jaguars make a move to add Tua Tagovailoa to their team if he was available?

I guess this is a case of we’re great minds think alike. For months it has been preordained that the Alabama quarterback would be selected by the Miami Dolphins with the fifth pack. But now, 10 days before the night of the first round of the annual selection process, there are plenty of questions where he may land.

And if it’s not Miami or another team like the Los Angeles Chargers, do the Jacksonville Jaguars have an interest in adding one of the biggest wildcards of the first round to their roster?

Sayer Bedinger offered the question in his latest story on NFLMocks.com, Wondering through the computer screen who would move up to take arguably the most talented quarterback in the draft.

His injury history while playing for the Crimson Tide may have halted many teams’ thought processes. While the Jaguars appear to be set with Gardner Minshew as their starter this year, it’s not a given the second-year pro will fulfill all of the team’s wishes in only his second season in the NFL.

Should he be available when Commissioner Roger Goodell announces that the Jaguars our quote on the clock“ will general manager David Caldwell shock the world and add more controversy to a team already expected to be one of the worst in the league in 2020?

If anything, adding a player like Tagovailoa will make the Jacksonville jaguars one of the more interesting teams to watch moving forward.

"“In all likelihood, Tua will land somewhere in the top 10 picks, but it might not be with the team or teams most people have been assuming all along,” Bedinger writes.“Throughout much of the offseason, Tagovailoa has been projected to land with the Miami Dolphins either at the fifth overall pick which they currently own or with the third overall pick in a trade with the Detroit Lions.”"

The Dolphins need a quarterback to help as part of the rebuilding process led by head coach Brian Florez. The Lions could surprise many and bring him in to compete with Matthew Stafford or become his eventual replacement. Here in Jacksonville, the addition of such a polarizing rookie with injury concerns could be viewed as another blundering moment in team history.

It could also be viewed as one of the slickest moves Caldwell has made since becoming the teams GM in 2013.

Jaguars Head coach Doug Marrone has stated that if the organization can bring in players to help this team win, then he wants to see that happen. Tagovailoa may be a better quarterback prospect then Minshew coming out of college, but does the sudden shake up at the position do more to harm the continuity of the team’s roster?

The Jaguars could also become the popular kid in school at No. 9, knowing other teams want Tagovailoa and are willing to move up the board to grab him, which means more draft capital for the team in North Florida. Certainly, if the Jaguars do not want him, they can become a bridge to help another team get to him.
