5 Wide Receiver Prospects the Jaguars should consider
What if the Jacksonville Jaguars decide to use an early-round pick on a wide receiver in the NFL Draft. Good news for the organization. There are plenty to choose from.
If the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking for playmakers in the NFL Draft, this might be the deepest selection of wide receivers to choose from in recent memory. For an offense that averaged just 18.8 points a game last year and went through the transition of starting a rookie at quarterback for the majority of the 2019 season, this is a team that has some weapons on offense but could use a few more.
Recent offseason moves have put the Jaguars in a lucrative spot for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. Arguably the best position this draft season is at wide receiver, with a plethora of depth that hasn’t been seen since the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars should seriously look into the position when drafting to add talent to help quarterback Gardner Minshew’s development and to give the team someone alongside breakout star DJ Chark.
Jacksonville also has Dede Westbrook and Chris Conley who had their moments last season. Keelan Cole was given a second-round tender this offseason, meaning any team that wanted to sign him in free agency would have to surrender a second-round draft pick. That’s not too bad for someone who was a street free agent two seasons ago.
Here are five receivers that would be excellent additions to the Jaguars receiving corps.
Jerry Jeudy, Alabama
The best wide receiver prospect in a while, Alabama star Jerry Jeudy will bring an immediate boost to the Jaguars passing attack, already possessing multiple NFL-ready including route running and contested catches.
Jeudy comes in at 6’1 and 193 pounds, running a 4.45 40-yard dash. At Alabama, He caught 145 passes for 2478 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Jeudy will be a tough get for the Jaguars, as the team could be unwilling to draft a wide receiver at ninth overall with other glaring needs that will be available at that spot, It is also unlikely that he will be available at 20.
CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma
Another big-time playmaker ready to make a difference as a first-day starter, CeeDee Lamb shined at Oklahoma, catching 62 passes for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2019 with an impressive 21.4 yards per reception.
A 4.5 40-yard dash, Lamb is able to create space and be a threat with the ball in his hands. Lamb possesses wide receiver one catching ability with circus-type grabs.
Lamb and Chark (and possible former Oklahoma star Westbrook) would be a fantastic duo in Jacksonville Both players are down-field threats with great size and athleticism, making Minshew’s job much easier on “go get it” plays.
Henry Ruggs III, Alabama
A speedster with other quality attributes, Henry Ruggs will open up the Jaguars offense and prove to be a valuable threat. Posting 40 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019, Ruggs’ stats suffered from Jeudy on the other side of him.
Ruggs provides crazy speed, running a 4.27 40-yard dash, along with a 131-inch broad jump. Not only would Ruggs be able to help the Jaguars passing game, but he can also be placed on special teams for kick and punt returns.
There is a possibility that Ruggs will be available for the Jaguars to select at 20.
Laviska Shenault Jr., Colorado
A big question mark entering the draft, Laviska Shenault has the opportunity to be a great player in the NFL if he can put it together. In two seasons, Shenault caught 142 passes for 1,775 yards and 10 touchdowns.
A core muscle injury hurt him during his junior campaign, but he recently underwent surgery to correct the lingering issue. He is a physical specimen, coming in at 6’1 and 227 pounds with an excellent balance of speed and strength.
Shenault is a problem in the open field, turning into a running back and making it difficult to be taken down. If he can stay healthy, Jacksonville will be getting a physical receiver with a big upside. Jacksonville will have the chance to get Shenault in the second round with his stock falling while the likes of Justin Jefferson and Tee Higgins rise.
Jalen Reagor, TCU
Fluid and explosive, Jalen Reagor can be a great addition to the Jaguars outside of the first round. Reagor had a difficult junior season with 43 catches for 611 yards and five touchdowns, but it was his sophomore season that showed promise with 72 catches for 1,061 yards and nine touchdowns.
From the outside or in the slot, Reagor will provide great versatility for the Jaguars with his speed and downfield presence.
The value of finding talent like Reagor in the second round will allow for the Jaguars to fill their immediate needs in the first round, while still finding a playmaker with instant impact on the team.
