The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without cornerback A.J. Bouye for Sunday’s game against the Colts and could be without RB Leonard Fournette due to illness.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced that running back Leonard Fournette has been downgraded for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts from questionable to doubtful. It was also announced that cornerback A.J. Bouye has been ruled out for the game due to a wrist injury.

Both players appeared on the team’s injury report on Friday. In other moves, the team has announced that wide receiver/kick returner Michael Walker has been placed in the reserve/injured list and running back Jeremy McNichols has been promoted to the 53-man roster from the team’s practice squad.

If Fournette cannot go tomorrow, rookie Ryquell Armstead will get his first NFL start at home in the season finale.

Fournette, who has had by far his best season in a Jaguars uniform, had been healthy for the first 15 games of the season – the first time he had been able to do that since he was drafted fourth overall in 2017. He had rushed for 1,152 yards and caught 76 passes this season – leading the Jaguars in both categories.

With the notification of Bouye not playing on Sunday, does this mean he could have played his last game in a Jacksonville uniform? There has been some discussion, although minor, that his contract may be too much for the team heading into 2020. The 2017 free-agent signee made $13 million this season and is expected to make that much in both 2020 and 2021 before becoming a free agent.

If the Jaguars were to release him after this season, there would be a $4 million dead cap hit to their salary cap.

Fournette, who camp to OTAs and training camp amid plenty of controversy regarding his dedication to the organization, has become the focal point of the team’s offense and a more vocal leader in the locker room and on the field. He will walk into his fourth season with the franchise has shown he can be the dual-threat type of back that can change the complexity of a game.

It also means there will be talk about whether the front office should pick up his fifth-year option next season or will they renegotiate a new deal for the 2021 season.
