With the success he has experienced here in Jacksonville, is Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo the team’s best free-agent signing ever?

The past 25 years for the Jacksonville Jaguars franchise have produced some great, good and bad free agent signings. But could kicker Josh Lambo be one of the best, if not the best, free-agent acquisitions in team history?

Breaking down some of the good free agent signings in team history, names like Leon Searcy, Mike Peterson, and Malik Jackson come to mind. Then there’s another tier of free agents that gave — and continue to give — the team stellar seasons like Paul Posluszny, A.J. Bouye and Calais Campbell. Let’s not forget Thunder and Lightning in Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell.

So does Lambo deserve praise as the best free-agent signing in Jaguars history? It’s truly a matter of opinion, but Lambo has exceeded expectations for the franchise and has vaulted himself as one of the best kickers in the NFL.

And he was just named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Per John Oehser of Jaguars.com. “Lambo scored 13 points against Cincinnati, converting all four of his field goals and his only extra point. He has converted 18 of 18 field goals and 10 of 10 extra points this season.”

In three seasons

In three seasons, Lambo has hit 56 of 59 field goals for a 95 percent field goal percentage, as well as a 94.4 extra point percentage. This percentage is the highest in the NFL for the past three seasons, even surpassing that of Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.

When looking at Lambo’s success, the NFL average stands at 83.2 percent for field goal percentage and the same in extra point percentage at 94.4 percent. And the former professional soccer player hasn’t missed a field goal under 40 yards for the team to date and has hit six of seven field goal attempts 50-yards or greater.

During his time with the organization, Lambo has scored 219 points for the team. Lambo is far from the Jaguars all-time scoring record, which is currently held by former Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee with 1022 points, but it’s far fetched that at only 28-years-old he could approach the mark in time, assuming the Jaguars keep him for the foreseeable future

Lambo also has the second-longest field goal in team history, which came in 2018 with a 57-yard boot against the Philadelphia Eagles in London. Some other highlights in his Jaguars career include a 30-yard game-winner against his former team, Los Angeles Chargers, in 2017; and a 33-yard walk-off kick against the Denver Broncos in week four of this season.

Lambo’s tenure with the team has garnered the respect of the players and coaches, who rally behind his golden boot in every situation. Not many teams feel as confident about their kicker as the Jaguars do with theirs.

While Lambo isn’t having his jersey fly off the racks like that of Campbell or Bouye, he is still a consistent scorer at a position that is taken for granted in this league. When the game is on the line, players and fans can rest easy knowing that Lambo will more than likely pull through and provide us with his signature move in glorious celebration.
