Jaguars sign former Chiefs QB to the practice squad

The Jaguars add Chase Litton to the practice squad ahead of this weekend’s matchup with the Chiefs.
The first thing that comes to mind when seeing the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed quarterback Chase Litton to the practice squad is that he played for the Kansas City Chiefs, the team that just happens to be the home team’s opponent this weekend at TIAA Bank Field.
The other thing that comes to mind is the former Marshall standout gives the team another arm on the roster and helps fill out the 10-man practice squad after spending two seasons in Kansas City. It could also be a case of the Jaguars looking to gain some knowledge into the inner workings of the Chiefs offense and coaching staff prior to the game.
"“It’s not uncommon for NFL teams to try to get an inside look at what the opponent might do by signing a former player who can yield such insights,” writes Matt Conner of Arrowhead Addict.“The Jaguars have high hopes this season, especially given the strength of their defense, but facing the Chiefs is a daunting task for any team. Consequently, Doug Marrone’s staff is currently grilling Litton for any and all potential wisdom.”"

The Jaguars lost to the Chiefs in Week 5 last season at Arrowhead Stadium, 30-14. The loss began the downward spiral of an organization that was within 10 minutes of playing in Super Bowl 52 only two seasons ago.
Jacksonville went on to loses six straight games after the loss.
Litton originally signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL draft from Marshall University. He has spent the last two seasons learning head coach Andy Reid’s system. He firmly held the third slot on the quarterback depth chart behind Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne. Now, he stands behind Nick Foles and rookie Gardner Minshew.
"Per USA Today’s Chiefs Wire, “In his two preseasons with the Chiefs, Litton had 575 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. He was outplayed this preseason by Kyle Shurmur, who replaces Litton on the Chiefs’ practice squad in 2019.”"
The front office changed its quarterback situation this offseason by signing former Philadelphia Eagles star Foles to a four-year, $88-million deal and then added Minshew in the NFL Draft in April in the sixth round.
Minshew, who was a Heisman hopeful at Washington State last season, played the majority of the preseason for Jacksonville as they rested Foles for the regular season.
