The story in Jacksonville the past few seasons has been about a dominant defense. What if the Jaguars offense proves to be the catalyst this season?

If you are looking for a different look to the Jacksonville Jaguars, one where the offense has more of an impact on the team, you have found one in a recent story on NFL.com.

In a story entitled, “Which NFL team will have biggest turnaround in 2019?” a panel of four analysts – all with NFL experience – talk about which team they believe will make the biggest jump this coming season. Former NFL defensive back DeAngelo Hall thinks it’s the Jaguars based on the offensive improvement we could see this season.

"“We can no longer say the Jags are a quarterback away from being true Super Bowl contenders. They have one now in free-agent addition Nick Foles, who can win games, not just manage them,” Hall writes.“Foles provides a sense of calm in the huddle and locker room, and I believe he’s refueled and focused on bringing a team that’s his to the next level. This defense — even without Telvin Smith — will (for once) feed off the offense’s success and return to 2017 form.”"

It’s a topic that we all have discussed so much this offseason, but have not addressed as a catalyst for this franchise. When is the last time anyone talked about the Jaguars offense being a juggernaut and forcing opposing defensive coordinators to game plan accordingly?

Even during the 2017 campaign, when the Jaguars used a power running game and complimentary passing offense, the team finished sixth in points per game in the NFL and first in yards per game on the ground. The defense was so good, with record-setting numbers, the national media at times lost sight of the impact the Jaguars had on the offensive side of the ball.

Health played a huge role in the lack of production the offense had in 2018. This year, John DeFilippo comes in with a new game plan and a new philosophy.

He also has Foles by his side after the two were part of the Super Bowl party in Philadelphia. It looks like a winning combination on paper. Can the same variables play out in Jacksonville this season?

The Jaguars added a few pieces to the puzzle on offense with Chris Conley coming in to help at wide receiver and added Josh Oliver in the Draft to play tight end. The offensive line must remain healthy and the running back room looks different than last season, with Leonard Fournette the only familiar face.

If the offense is properly utilized, Hall’s assessment may be correct. If the offense gives the defense time to rest on the sideline, this could a balanced team that marches toward a playoff berth.
