In a recent story from USA Today, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles was ranked 14th among NFL starters, one spot above Carson Wentz.

Where would you rank Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles among the 32 starters in the NFL? It’s an interesting question that raises a few eyebrows as the team awaits its return to training camp in the final week of July at TIAA Bank Field.

In his most recent story for the USA Today Sports Media Group, Barry, Werner places the new Jaguars signal caller 14th on the list, which isn’t all that surprising given the talent at the position and questions about whether Foles, who is 30, can solve the problems this franchise has had since they cut ties with David Garrard.

Foles signed a four-year, $88-million deal this offseason with more than $51 million in guaranteed money.

"“This could be another great spot for Nick Foles to show off his leadership and quarterback capabilities,” Werner writes. “The Jags have needed a solid quarterback for a long time. Foles can be that and more.“This team had a sorry season last year when a lot was expected. Foles can take over the offense and erase the bad memories of 2018.”"

His ranking is curious because he comes in one spot above Carson Wentz, the player whom the Philadelphia Eagles are banking on to return to the Super Bowl. Foles, in his tenure with the Eagles organization, led the team to a Super Bowl 52 title after Wentz went down with an injury and then replaced him again last season for a late-season playoff run.

"“Before Carson Wentz moves up on this list he has to prove he can stay healthy and durable as the Eagles’ quarterback,” Werner added. “With Nick Foles off to Jacksonville, Philly needs a 16-game season out of their star quarterback, who just received a massive contract extension.”"

The Jaguars had one of the NFL’s worst offenses in 2018, averaging just 15.3 points per contest with a running game that finished 19th in the league in yards per game. The passing game was worse, averaging 194 yards a contest, good enough for 26th in the NFL.

Bringing Foles to Jacksonville this offseason signaled the end of the Blake Bortles era here in Jacksonville after five years that saw this franchise make the playoffs just once.

Werner’s list also presents more questions about where he ranks current signal callers. Foles was the third quarterback listed in the AFC South. He has Houston’s Deshaun Watson eighth overall, followed by Andrew Luck of Indianapolis, who was ninth.

Marcus Mariota of Tennessee was the last quarterback ranked from the division, 22nd overall.
