The Jacksonville Jaguars add depth at right tackle by trading up in the second round to select Florida offensive tackle, Jawaan Taylor.

The original thought was the Jacksonville Jaguars would grab Florida offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor in the first round of the NFL Draft. The team was able to grab Taylor with the 35th pick, fourth overall in the second round.

The Jaguars traded up from the 38th pick with the Oakland Raiders to make the selection. Jacksonville addressed the need for a pass rusher with Josh Allen at the seventh pick. Taylor gives the team another body on the offensive line and a player who will challenge for the right tackle spot that was vacated when the team released Jermey Parnell before the start of free agency.

The offensive line was one of the biggest disappointments of the team last season as injuries decimated the roster.

Taylor played in 13 games in 2018 and started 12. The Gators surrendered just 18 sacks last season. He was named Second-Team All SEC honors. He stands 6-foot-5 and 312 pounds.

The team returns four of the five starters on the offensive line who started in Week 1 against the New York Giants last season. The team re-signed right tackle A.J. Cann the first day of free agency and brought back reserve linemen Josh Wells and Tyler Shatley.

The pick is considered a solid move as the team looks to add more protection for quarterback Nick Foles.

Per CBS Sports…

"“The Jaguars have knocked it out of the park (with Josh Allen in first round and now Taylor). This kid is nasty. Talk about big, physical guys. Put him at right tackle and now all of a sudden your offensive line is solidified. I love this pick. Jaguars nailed it.”"

At the team’s Pre-Draft Luncheon executive vice-president of football operations Tom Coughlin talked about the offensive line. Cam Robinson is expected to come back from an ACL injury to once again assume the left tackle spot.

The team needs Robinson to be back at full strength to help solidify the left side of the line with guard Andrew Norwell, who was injured during the season as time.

The selection of Taylor could also have an affect on Will Richardson and his time on the field. Richardson, the team’s fourth-round pick last season. Richardson missed the entire regular season because of injury. Head coach Doug Marrone stated at the luncheon last week Richardson needed to come to camp ready to play.
