Jaguars pick up Jalen Ramsey’s fifth-year option
By David Levin
The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced the team has picked up the fifth-year option on cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey will be under contract through 2020.
Earlier this offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced they would pick up the fifth-year option for cornerback Jalen Ramsey. On Thursday, ahead of the first round of the NFL Draft, the team made that a reality. The move means the Pro Bowler will be under contract with the team through the 2020 season.
It also means the organization will have one of their best players on the field as the team tries to work out a long term deal in the future.
"According to Herbie Teope of NFL.com, “Jacksonville’s announcement proved a formality ahead of the May 3 deadline when considering general manager David Caldwell told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine the team would pick up the option.”"

Ramsey was an All-Pro selection in 2017 and a two-time Pro Bowl pick the past two seasons. He and A.J. Bouye form one of the best cornerback tandems in the NFL. His play last season was one of the highlights in what could be deemed a failure as the team posted a 5-11 record.
The contract situation with Ramsey has been a question since the middle of last season. Ramsey has stated he wants to play for one team his entire career.
He was the team’s top pick in 2016. He is part of the same draft class that produced Myles Jack and Yannick Ngouke.
Ngakoue is another player the Jaguars will have to pay after next season.
"Per the Jaguars public relations department, “Ramsey, who has totaled 193 career tackles, 44 passes defensed and nine INTs (one for TD), has started all 48 games since being drafted with the fifth overall selection in 2016.”"
Ramsey is one of eight players in franchise history and just three on defense (DTs Marcus Stroud and John Henderson) to earn multiple Pro Bowl honors.
Per spotrac, Ramsey signed a four-year, $23.351 million deal. He has a base salary of $3.63 million this season and will make $13.7 million in 2020.
