The Jacksonville Jaguars could be one of the teams in the top 10 of the NFL Draft that makes a deal on Thursday night. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell explores this option.

It’s hypothetical, but it could actually happen on the first night of the NFL Draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars sit in the seventh spot with a quarterback or two on the board available while the team can still grab the prospect they want a few spots later. Does this team play “Let’s Make a Deal” to acquire more draft capital?

Bill Barnwell of ESPN.com explores a potential trade involving every NFL team in his most recent story online. The Jaguars could be part of a deal with the Denver Broncos, who could be a team looking to move up to grab a future signal caller or another position player.

The trade Barnwell proposes is a swap of the seventh pick for the 10th overall. The Jaguars would also get Denver’s third-round pick (71st overall). He includes the Jaguars fifth-round pick in the deal, but Jacksonville does not have a selection because of the trade for Carlos Hyde.

The trade is for Denver to select Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson, who has also been linked to the Jaguars and the Detroit Lions.

"“The Lions have been popularly linked to Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson, who is getting comparisons to Rob Gronkowski. It’s always going to be aggressive to compare a guy who hasn’t played a single NFL snap to arguably the best player at his position in NFL history, but Hockenson has huge upside as a blocker and a receiver,” Barnwell writes. “It wouldn’t be shocking to see him go in the top 10, especially when you consider that the Lions’ brain trust spent their formative years with Gronk in New England.”"

The Jaguars have a major need at the tight end position – something we here at Black and Teal have discussed many times over. There are other needs for this franchise on offense, which includes right tackle. This is a year where both positions are deep and teams can find quality in the second round.

The move would give Jacksonville three picks in the third round and five selections in the top 98 picks – certainly a chance to improve an offense that was all but deflated in 2018.

"“There’s a chance Hockenson might fall to the Broncos with the 10th pick, but they should be willing to move down later in the draft to ensure they get their man,” Barwell adds. “The Jags, who are likely looking at a right tackle to replace Jermey Parnell, should be able to land Jonah Williams or Jawaan Taylor three picks from now.”"

The Jaguars could also seek a tight end in Round 2. Irv Smith, Jr of Alabama visited the team in recent weeks. It is also possible Noah Fant, who played with Hockenson at Iowa, could fall to the second round and would be available to the Jaguars with the 38th pick.
