"“I’m officially a Jacksonville Jaguar, and I’m super excited about it,” Foles said Thursday morning via John Oehser and Jaguars.com."
The connection between Foles and DiFilppo is expected to help turn around a stagnant offense that averaged only 15.3 points per game last season. DiFilippo was brought in to replace Nathaniel Hackett who was fired midway through the 2018 season.
Foles was always thought to be the front runner to replace Bortles, but there had been talk about Teddy Bridgewater of New Orleans and Ryan Tannehill of Miami drawing interest from the Jaguars front office.
The Jaguars, who posted a 5-11 record last season, were expected to draft a quarterback in the Draft if April had they not signed a veteran.
The deal Foles signed was reported to be four-year contract worth $88 million that could pay him $102 million. The deal reportedly includes $50.1 million in guarantees, according to Oehser.
Bortles was the Jaguars first pick in the 2014, He was the third pick overall. Bortles finished career with 103 touchdown passes and 75 interceptions.
"“Foles (6-feet-6, 243 pounds), an eight-year NFL veteran, started 13 games for the Eagles the past two seasons with a 10-3 record. Foles quarterbacked all five Eagles postseason games the past two seasons with a record of 4-1,” Oeher wrote."
