Are the Jaguars interested in Kyler Murray?
By David Levin
Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray has officially decided to commit to pro football, ending his relationship with the Oakland As and Major League Baseball. Would the Jaguars take a chance on the Oklahoma standout?
Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray ended speculation about his future on Monday when he announced on social media he will commit to pro football, ending his relationship with the Oakland A’s, the team that signed him to a hefty minor league deal. Will the Heisman Trophy winner draw interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars?
"Per Bob Hille of The Sporting News, “Murray was the Oakland Athletics’ first-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft but was permitted to return to the Oklahoma Sooners to complete his senior season with the football team.”"
After winning the Heisman Trophy, there was growing speculation the two-sport star was leaning toward a career on the NFL level, but still had a contract to play for the Athletics.
"“Moving forward, I am firmly committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback,” Murray posted on Twitter."
It is believed Kyler Murray is a first-round talent, however where he is drafted in April has plenty to do with his size and measureables and which team is willing to draft him and use his skill set to their advantage. The Jaguars are in need of a signal caller and have been linked to Murray on the Dallas Morning News website and other publications.

The Jaguars have been linked to Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State as well, who is expected to be the first quarterback drafted in April. Murray has been also linked to the Oakland Raiders who choose fourth overall. The Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins have also been viewed as landing spots for him.
If Jacksonville wants to add a quarterback to their roster through the NFL Draft, it would appear they could have to trade up to grab one.
I am not sure if Murray, who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 195 pounds, is the type of quarterback who can survive with the Jaguars if the offensive line is not improved and healthy for the upcoming season.
What the Jaguars plan to do at the quarterback position is really predicated on if they sign a veteran signal caller in free agency or trade for one to either lead the team until it can groom a rookie to start or take over for the next two seasons before the Jaguars add another young arm.
There has been plenty of speculation the Jaguars, 5-11 last season, will cut ties with quarterback Blake Bortles this offseason and seek another veteran to add to the roster.
Nick Foles, Teddy Bridgewater and Joe Flacco are the three names most discussed in NFL circles.
The plan, as has been talked about but not varified yet is the team will also draft a quarterback and groom them to eventually take over the offense.
Kyler Murray said via his Twitter account he has already begun working toward the preparing to showcase his talents for NFL teams as the Combine and Draft approaches.
"“Football has been my love and passion my entire life. I was raised to play QB, and I very much look forward to dedicating 100 per cent of myself to being the best QB possible and winning NFL championships,” Kyker Murray said"
