The Jacksonville Jaguars take a long look at the 2019 quarterbacks hoping to make their mark in the NFL.

The 2019 quarterback draft class is not getting the hype the 2018 class received. The top prospects in the 2018 group were drafted in the first round and played quickly.  ]This may happen to the 2019 class as well. The Jacksonville Jaguars will pay close attention to the next couple of months as signal callers evolve on draft boards.

With the likelihood of Blake Bortles being released and the team looking in another direction for a veteran signal caller to keep the position warm until a rookie is ready to take over, this will be the most discussed position of need in the offseason.

The Combine, interviews, and individual Pro Days may improve their stock before the NFL draft in April. As of now, it appears that there will be potential starters in the first and second rounds. After that, who knows?

More from Jacksonville Jaguars News

The Jaguars as of today have the 7th pick in the 2019 draft.  The teams ahead of the Jaguars have quarterbacks in place with the exception of the New York Giants. Other teams may trade up and it’s a long time before April.

To add, the Jaguars may get a free agent quarterback. Let’s assume for today that the Jaguars will draft a quarterback in Round 1.

The top four quarterbacks in the draft based on walterfootball.com and ESPN.com are: 1. Dwayne Haskins. 2. Drew Lock. 3. Daniel Jones. 4. Will Greer.  There are some minor changes in the order but these are the ones most discussed by sports analysts.

Dwayne Haskins. QBR (Quarterback rating86.3. Size. 6’3’’  220 pounds 14 starts

Haskins has the size and arm to play in the NFL.  He played at Ohio State which means he faced top competition and had excellent coaching.  Teddy Bridgewater is a comparable quarterback.  He only started 14 games at the college level.  Mel Kiper ranked him the number one QB and projected first round selection.

Drew Lock QBR 82.0   Size  6’3″ 228 pounds  46 starts

Drew Lock has the size and experience to be a starter in the NFL.  Missouri is an SEC school so the competition was good.  He is described as having Jay Cutler skills with a quiet Eli Manning personality.  He is projected by both Kiper and Walter Football to be a first round selection.

Daniel Jones QBR 71.6   Size 6’ 5”  220 pounds. 37 starts

Lock is projected as a first or second round draft choice.  He is compared to Carson Wentz.  His team, Duke, didn’t have the top talent but he played against good competition in the ACC.  One comment stated that he must shorten his delivery and get the ball out faster to be a success in the NFL.

Will Grier QBR  81.6   Size  6’2”   221 pounds  27 starts

Grier has played excellent football at West Virginia.  He started at the University of Florida but was penalized for substance abuse of a non prescription drug.  He looked great during his time at UF.  He is a second round projection at this time but is rising.

My take – It seems that any of the four would be a good choice.  They have size, arm strength, and played very well in college. Each has a negative.

Next. Should Keenan McCardell be on the hot seat. dark

Haskins has limited experience, Lock lacks the A type personality, Jones has an elongated delivery, and Grier has a family described as “high maintenance.”  We will learn much more before April and the NFL draft.
