NFL Trade Deadline: Do the Jaguars make a deal?
By David Levin
With the NFL Trade deadline only hours away, will the Jacksonville Jaguars make a deal that will bolster their current roster?
Last year, the Jacksonville Jaguars made a deal with the Buffalo Bills to get defensive tackle Marcell Dareus during the team’s bye week. This year, the franchise added Carlos Hyde to a struggling running game. With the NFL trade deadline looming, will the team’s front office pull off another trade to help the struggling franchise?
The talk of a potential trade could involve defensive end, Dante Fowler, as the Los Angeles Rams have been a team looking to make a deal for a pass rusher. Fowler, who is in the final year of his rookie deal and did not have his fifth-year option picked up by the team, could be the Jaguars best trade piece at this time.
As a side note, I do not see the team trying to unload key veterans on the defensive side of the ball for draft picks or players.

"Peter King of profootballtalk.com wrote, “The Rams, speaking of “baseball trades,” want a pass-rusher. I hear defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is lukewarm on Denver’s Ray (having coached him two years ago), and if the Jags make disappointing high first-round pick Dante Fowler Jr., available, the Rams would have interest.L.A. is unlikely to deal swing guard Jamon Brown for a late-round pick, though there’s been interest. He’s a low-cost insurance guy for the line.”"
The Jaguars could look to add depth along the offensive line, especially at left tackle.
Fowler was the subject of trade rumors prior to the start of the NFL season involving the New York Jets in a deal that would have sent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to Jacksonville. The Jets had drafted Sam Darnold with the third pick in April’s Draft and the Jaguars still may have been interested in insurance for Blake Bortles, who has been inconsistent this season.
Fowler was the Jaguars first-round draft pick in 2015 as the third player chosen. He has not lived up to expectations despite increasing his sack total from four in 2016 to eight in 2018. The 2015 season was a wash as the former University of Florida star suffered an ACL injury the first play of rookie minicamp and was lost for the year.
Besides the offensive line, the Jaguars could also seek help at tight end and potentially at linebacker and wide receiver.
Jacksonville sent a fifth-round draft pick to Cleveland two weeks ago for Hyde to help a struggling rushing offense.
The Jaguars were active last year prior to the trade deadline, sending a fifth-round pick to Buffalo for defensive tackle Marcell Dareus.
