Jaguars DE Calais Campbell Questionable for Sunday’s Game
By David Levin
The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially listed defensive end Calais Campbell as questionable for the game this Sunday against Houston.
It’s not the news the Jacksonville Jaguars need right now as they head into a big AFC South divisional matchup with the Houston Texans. Starting defensive end Calais Campbell has officially been listed as “questionable” for the game on Sunday.
The injury report released on Friday shows the All-Pro was limited in practice on Friday. If he cannot play against the Texans, the Jaguars could give rookie Taven Bryan his first start of the season, or could possibly go with Dante Fowler on the right side of the defensive line.
Either way, the loss of Campbell would be a huge blow to the Jaguars defense. Both he and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue are tied for the team lead with four sacks each.

Campbell is suffering from hip and ankle issues which may have occurred against the Dallas Cowboys in last week’s 40-7 loss on the road.
The team also announced that running back Leonard Fournette, defensive back D.J. Hayden, and tight end James O’Shaughnessy were all ruled out for this weekend. Injuries have been a continual issue for Jacksonville this season after being one of the healthiest teams in the league last season.
"“Hayden, like Fournette, was among three players ruled out by the Jaguars Friday; Hayden will miss a fifth consecutive game,” Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser wrote. “[Tre] Herndon was listed as questionable Friday along with defensive end Calais Campbell (ankle/hip) and rookie tackle Will Richardson Jr. (knee).”"
Richardson has since been placed on Injured Reserve, which opened a roster spot for the team to trade for running back Carlos Hyde from Cleveland.
While there is depth along the defensive line, tight end is a position of concern. The team has already lost both Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Niles Paul. O’Shaughnessy suffered a hip injury in practice on Wednesday.
"“It’s a tough deal,” head coach Doug Marrone said."
As of writing this story, Jacksonville has only two available tight ends on the roster – David Grinnage and Blake Bell. If needed, Marrone said fullback Tommy Bohanon could get some snaps there to fill the need for depth.
"“He’ll be able to get us some snaps there,” Marrone said. “He knows the position because of the way it’s labeled in our offense. We’ll go out and give him some work.”"
