The Jacksonville Jaguars head to Dallas to play America’s Team.  The Cowboys were known by that title for many years. Perhaps not so much now since they are no longer a perennial Super Bowl contender.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have an excellent opportunity to win the game on Sunday at Dallas.  The Cowboys are said to have a solid defense and running game but a very poor passing game.  Sound familiar?  Let’s look at the Cowboys.

From the game against the Houston Texans,  Randy Gurzi of NFL Spin Zone stated the following.

"“For Dallas it continues to be a ridiculously up and down season.  They lost their first game…followed by a win….  They followed that with a loss and then a win.”"

Based on that logic and the loss to the Texans, they continue their lose, win, lose, win pattern. This means that they are due for a win on Sunday.  However, Blake Bortles is following a similar pattern good game, bad game, good game, bad game, and is due for a good game.

Something will need to give for one of the teams.  I believe Bortles will play a good game.  More on this later.

Generally speaking, Jacksonville and Dallas are mirror images of one another. They both have solid defenses and inconsistent offenses. The Cowboys rank ninth defensively in yards allowed and a dismal 25th in yards gained offensively. The Jaguars defense ranks third and offense eighth. It’s encouraging to see that the Jaguars rankings are much higher.

The only area that the Cowboys are ahead of Jacksonville is the running game with the very impressive Ezekiel Elliott.  The Jaguars running game has been limited by the injury to Leonard Fournette and now the loss of Corey Grant.

Jacksonville has looked at a variety of free agent running backs. As a result, they have signed free agent Jamaal Charles and David Williams from the Denver Broncos practice squad. Both teams are designed to run first, so two additional backs are needed for the Jaguars.

Jacksonville’s defense will have a great game this week.  The Cowboys have a suspect offensive line which will allow Calais Campbell, Marcel Dareus, and the defensive line to harass Dak Prescott. In addition, the Cowboys have no go-to receiver so Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Boyue, and the secondary should also have a great game.

The offense will be much improved as well.  To begin, Jacksonville will be able to field an adequate number of running backs.  This will allow them to run effectively and stay with the run longer.

dark. Next. Are the Jaguars Done Making Trades?

A better running game will help Bortles by taking the pressure off his shoulders.  The fans should look forward to a return to winning ways.
