Are the Jacksonville Jaguars Done Making Deals to Help the Offense?
By David Levin
After moves to shore up the running game, are the Jacksonville Jaguars done making deals to help their offensive line and at tight end?
You knew something would happen on Tuesday when it was announced that both Charcandrick West and Jamaal Charles paid a visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars as the team looked to fill holes in their running attack.
Charles was signed to a one-year deal. West left empty-handed. It was just one of the moves the team made on Tuesday in an effort to fill roster spots left open because of injuries on the offensive side of the football.
The team announced it had promoted David Grinnage from the practice squad to fill the spot left open when Austin Seferian-Jenkins. The team did not seek a free agent to fill the role. At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, the former free agent who was added to the team’s practice squad is a big target, who has to prove he can catch the football and block in the running game.
I find the move a curious one because Crockett Gilmore, Clive Walford, and Anthony Fasano are still on the market and could provide some value to the Jaguars passing game. The loss of Seferian-Jenkins is a big blow to the offense because of the minimal targets both James O’Shaughnessy and Niles Paul have gotten this season.
"Per the Jaguars, “Grinnage, 6-5, 265, spent the entire 2017 season and the first five weeks of the 2018 season on Jacksonville’s practice squad. Grinnage has yet to appear in an NFL game after originally signing as an undrafted rookie with Green Bay on April 30, 2016.”"

The Jaguars also have issues at left tackle where Josh Wells went down with a groin injury. Wells replaced Cam Robinson for the season after he suffered an ACL injury. Left tackle is a position of concern, especially how the entire offensive line was manhandled by the Kansas City pass rush.
"“I think he’s going to be week-to-week,” Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said on Monday when he met with the media. “Wednesday we’ll have a better chance. Usually right afterwards it’s always tough. Week-to-week we’ll know.”"
When asked about whether the team would make a move to sign or trade for a proven tackle, Marrone said the team had options at the position. One of those may be veteran Josh Walker, who filled in for Wells during the game on Sunday.
"“We’ll discuss some of the options in case Josh [Wells] isn’t able to go this week. Josh Walker is one of them. There are a couple of other ones. We all have to be ready to go and get ready to play.”"
