General Manager Dave Caldwell spoke on the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of the NFL scouting combine.

With the NFL scouting combine starting this week, GM’s and head coaches alike took the stage in Indianapolis to speak on their team’s current state and the events ahead.

Jacksonville Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell took the mic, and among other things, elaborated on the topic of free agency, specifically Jaguars who are set to hit the market. Caldwell stated the team has the cap space to re-sign both wide receiver Allen Robinson and cornerback Aaron Colvin.

It is no surprise Caldwell brought up Robinson when mentioning Jacksonville’s ability to re-sign. With Blake Bortles signed to an extension, the wide receiver has become priority number one in bringing back for next season and beyond.

But hearing Caldwell also point out that the Jaguars have the space to sign Aaron Colvin is an intriguing inclusion. Early on, it seemed unlikely that the team was going to be able to keep both Robinson and Colvin, without ultimately placing the franchise tag on Robinson. The wideout is considered a top ten free agent to be, and Colvin himself is gathering up quite the demand.

But with the moves the front office has made in recent weeks, the opportunity to retain both is becoming more of a possibility. The Jaguars cleared room by cutting ties with players like Chris Ivory, and then with the structuring of Bortles’ new deal.

Keeping Allen Robinson is an absolute must for the Jaguars. But if the team can also find a way to retain Aaron Colvin, that would be a major win for Jacksonville.
