The Jacksonville Jaguars are seemingly ready to search for an alternative at the quarterback position for next season.

The 2017 season has come to a conclusion for the Jacksonville Jaguars. With that, the attention turns to the NFL offseason. The primary focus that will be surrounding the Jaguars in the next coming months will be whether the team decides to upgrade the quarterback position, and move on from Blake Bortles.

According to ESPN’s leading NFL scoop man, Adam Schefter, Jacksonville is prepared to shop around to find a guy they consider an upgrade at the most important position in football, and cut ties with Bortles if that is in fact the case.

The two names thrown around the most when it comes to the Jaguars, and Schefter himself mentioned both, is Kirk Cousins and Alex Smith. Cousins, who has spent his first six seasons with the Washington Redskins, is set to hit the free agent market, while Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs look destined to part ways.

Personally, between the two, I would prefer Cousins over Smith. Cousins has a higher upside than Smith, but both have shown to have little downside, which is the issue with Bortles.

When Bortles is playing well and protecting the ball, he has been able to lead the team to wins, and had a hand in taking Jacksonville all the way to the AFC Championship game. But the problem has always been that when the QB gets in a rut, the struggles are lofty. There’s a chance that this season was the ceiling for Bortles, and pairing that with the fact that his floor is low, it’s no surprise the Jaguars will at least take a glance at making a run at a new signal caller.

Perhaps Blake Bortles will continue to find a groove, and if the returning starter in 2018, has proven not nearly as dreary a scenario as it previously appeared. But the fact remains that there are potentially better options in the market, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are ready to pounce.
