A common sports saying is…to be the champion you must defeat the champion. The Jacksonville Jaguars have a chance to defeat the champion this Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars can defeat the New England Patriots this Sunday.  However, it is not an easy task.  The Patriots have the best quarterback of all time.  Also, they have the best coach of all time. The team has experience in the playoffs.  In addition, they have Rob Gronkowski.  This is a formidable team but it is possible to defeat them.

The Jaguars need to play their best game.  There are four important things the Jags must do to win the game.  First they must play error free.  Next, they must avoid silly penalties.  Also, they must be able to keep the offense on the field.  Finally, they must put pressure on Tom Brady.

1. The Jaguars must play error free

Blake Bortles must play his game manager role to a ‘T’. In addition he needs to be effective at the short passing game to open up the run.  However the running backs must also play error free. They need to avoid fumbles and run the plays as designed to avoid running into a wall.  The defensive line players must not jump offsides and avoid roughing the passer. Finally, the secondary must avoid costly pass interference penalties.

2. The team must completely avoid personal foul and celebration penalties

These penalties are not mistakes in the trenches but silly errors that can cost the team momentum and possibly the game.  This is avoidable  by keeping a level head and not over reacting.

3. The offense must remain on the field as much as possible

Above all, we want to see Tom Brady on the sidelines.  In order to remain on the field, the coaches need to find successful plays and perhaps add some new plays that are unfamiliar to the Patriots. Obviously the offense must execute the plays successfully, and put long drives together.

4. The men in teal must get pressure on Brady

Brady is like any other quarterback because he hates to be under pressure.  He is not as mobile as some QBs, so it is doubtful that he will run very often.  This should assist our pass rushers, who need to get to Brady as much as possible.

In addition, the Jaguars can’t outsmart Bill Belichick so we must outplay him.  Also we will not be able to completely stop Gronkowski, so we must limit him as much as possible.  Just remember…to be the champion you must defeat the champion.  The Patriots may be the greatest champions of all time.  So we need to play our very best game.  Go Jags!
