The Jacksonville Jaguars are upgrading their roster talent through the draft and free agency.  There are several current Jaguars who could see their roles reduced in 2017.

It is not a secret that the Jacksonville Jaguars are in win now mode, according to general manager Dave Caldwell. There have been changes to the roster due to expired contracts, draft picks and free agent signings. Do not be surprised if several players have their current roles reduced.

The average NFL player career is 3.3 years per statista. Some careers are cut short due to injuries. Other careers are reduced because better players take their spot.

The Jaguars fan base wants the team to win consistently. Most of all, the Jaguars organization want to sell tickets and put a competitive product on the field.

Upgrading the talent level is required to compete in the NFL. Consequently, some fan favorites are released or spend more time on the sidelines. Here are some players who could see significant cuts in playing time through the upcoming season.

Five Jacksonville Jaguars Whose Roles Will Be Reduced In 2017

First, running back Corey Grant will not be on the roster for 2017. He is the odd man out since the Jaguars drafted Leonard Fournette. Grant rushed for 164 yards in his two seasons in Jacksonville.

Next, wide receiver Rashad Greene will not be the return man due to DeDe Westbrook’s emergence. An achilles tendon injury placed Greene on injured reserve late last season.  He could be traded or cut before the season begins.

Third, Paul Posluzny is playing a different position this season. After ten seasons at middle linebacker, he is moving to play strongside linebacker. Expect Posluszny to be off the field in clear passing situations.

Fourth, Marcedes Lewis is primarily a blocking tight end at this late stage of his career. The arrival of Mychal Rivera gives Jacksonville both a receiving and blocking tight end. Lewis will probably be inducted into the Pride of the Jaguars in the near future.

Finally, T. J. Yeldon will be the third string running back. Yeldon was slowed by injuries last season and did not participate in the first day of OTAs due to ankle injury. In two seasons, Yeldon has 312 carries for 1205 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Drafting Leonard Fournette closes the book on Yeldon as a major running back contributor for the Jaguars.
