How Many Current Jacksonville Jaguars Have Played in a Super Bowl?

Believe it or not, there are actually a few players on the Jacksonville Jaguars roster that have played in a Super Bowl. Can you name them?

You don’t hear the words “Super Bowl” and Jacksonville Jaguars in the same sentence too often. Many fans are surprised to hear that the Jaguars actually have a few players on their roster who have made it to a Superbowl. With the recent passing of Superbowl LI, I thought it would be interesting to see how many current Jaguars have played in one before.

6. Jordan Hill (DT-Seattle Seahawks)

Jordan Hill is a relatively new addition to the Jaguars roster. He was claimed off of waivers back in November of 2016 after the Redskins released him that same month. Hill was the Seattle Seahawks third round pick in 2013. Hill would later on win a Super Bowl with Seattle that very year, his rookie season. Interestingly enough, Hill attended Penn State, which seems to be a breeding ground for Jaguars players (Allen Robinson, Paul Posluszny, Jared Odrick).

5. Bryan Walters (WR-Seattle Seahawks)

Walters was a teammate of Jordan Hill when Seattle defeated the Denver Broncos, 43-8  in Super Bowl XLVIII. Walters would again return to his second Superbowl the very next year, where the Seahawks ended up losing in the last seconds of the game to the New England Patriots. Despite very little playing time, Walters managed to walk away with a ring and two Superbowl appearances. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

4. Brad Nortman (P-Carolina Panthers)

On his final season with the Carolina Panthers, Brad Nortman was able to be a valuable part of Super Bowl 50 in 2016. Despite a loss against the Denver Broncos, Nortman was able to take home a nice bonus, and the bragging rights of playing in a Super Bowl. In his time with the Panthers, Nortman was able to set a franchise record for average distance per punt in a season.

3. Julius Thomas (TE- Denver Broncos)

Thomas had a great season in 2013, which helped lead the Broncos to Super Bowl XLVIII against his future teammates; Walters and Hill. In that game, Thomas had four receptions for 27 yards. He ended the season with 12 touchdown receptions, the most by any Broncos Tight End ever. Thomas left the Broncos at the conclusion of the 2014 season for Jacksonville, where he eventually signed a five year 46 million dollar contract. Ironically, that very year the Broncos would go on and win the Super Bowl.

2. Prince Amukamara (CB-New York Giants)

Prince Amukamara was the New York Giants first round draft pick in 2011. He was sidelined much of his rookie season due to injury, but would go on to win Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots 21-17. Amukamara was one of few players fortunate enough to win a Super Bowl ring his rookie year. Amukamara played under legendary Jaguar coach Tom Coughlin that season. Amukamara may once again get another chance to play under Coughlin in 2017. That is, if the Jaguars decide to resign him.

1.  Malik Jackson (DT-Denver Broncos)

This one is the most obvious of the other five. The former fifth round pick out of Tennessee had a great season in 2015, which concluded with a Super Bowl Championship. In Superbowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers, it was Jackson who picked up a forced fumble from Cam Newton and returned it for a touchdown. That touchdown that he returned was the very first of his career. Jackson recorded five tackles in the 24-10 win over Carolina, which earned him his very first Super Bowl ring. Jackson’s stellar performance in 2015 gave the Jaguars a huge reason to offer him 90 million to come to Jacksonville. With an impressive 2016 season, Jackson has proved to be well worth it.

Jacksonville isn’t known as a team for its Super Bowl rings. With the amount of talent on the Jaguars roster, it may not be much longer before some of these guys get a second ring.
