There will be a number of Jacksonville Jaguars players set to hit free agency in 2017 and it will be important to keep their names in mind when the roster analysis gets underway.

The list of 2017 Jacksonville Jaguars free agents is not particularly large or particularly important to the future growth of the team.

Unrestricted free agents:

  • Peyton Thompson, SS
  • Tyler Shatley, G
  • Josh Wells, RT

For a team that struggled in many respects during the last few seasons, it is important to note that only a few of the key contributors are due to hit free agency this season. Players like Amukamara, Joeckel, and Cyprien head up the list as primary starters during the 2016 season or the seasons before, but other contributors like Walters, Abry, and Alualu would also be noticeable if they were no longer with the team.

For players like Amukamara and Cyprien, playing big in 2016 makes bringing them back a possibility. Cyprien had struggled in recent years but did everything in his power to be a solid strong safety in 2016, playing well throughout. For Amukamara, coming off a one-year “prove it” deal, locking him down as a return to the cornerback position is important. Amukamara played well in his sole Jags season thus far and his connection to new executive vice president Tom Coughlin is important in this calculus as well.

These are the names to keep an eye on moving forward. As news comes out through the offseason buildup to free agency, keep these players in mind. Some of them will inevitably return, some will leave for other teams, and any of them could have an impact on the team’s future performance.
