So how can Blake Bortles help lead the Jags to a win?
Reducing turnovers
In the previous meeting this season Bortles threw a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown. This was an overall symptom of how at times Bortles seems to press to make plays. Taking that pressure off of Bortles could help him regain his 2015 form.
Complete the downfield pass
Bortles has had trouble this season with the deep ball. On passes twenty or more yards down the field Bortles is 1:6 touchdown to interception. Completing downfield passes will not only help Bortles confidence as the game goes along. It will also help the Jags running game and help take some of that pressure of ending this eight game losing streak.
Spread the ball around
The good news is Bortles doesn’t have to do it alone. In recent weeks Marqise Lee and T..J Yeldon has shown the capability to help shoulder the workload. While Allen Robinson hasn’t had as a productive season as last year he is still a threat that must be accounted for. Allowing these three players chances to make plays is a must for Bortles to find success Sunday.
The Texans need a win Sunday to stay atop the AFC South. If the Jags can pull of an upset then it could take the Texans out of playoff contention. While the Jags might be searching for their third win it could be a cause for celebration taking the Texans out of the AFC south championship.
If Bortles can help the Jags find their third win of the year it will help him gain some confidence and momentum heading into the last few weeks of the season. Headed into Sundays game it’s time for Bortles to show he has the ability to finally beat the Huston Texans.
