Allen Robinson has been a disappointment in 2016

After a breakout 2015 campaign that led to a Pro Bowl bid, Allen Robinson has struggled so far in 2016.

Blake Bortles has drawn the most headlines in the spiraling fireball that is the 2016 Jacksonville Jaguars, but there is plenty of blame to go around. The offense is a shell of the explosive unit that took the field in 2015, with the lack of production from the skill position players sticking out the most.

Of those skill position players, Allen Robinson and his inability to produce consistently has been one of the most discouraging aspects of the season. Robinson looked outstanding in practices and offseason activities, like a receiver ready to take the next step and establish himself as one in the best of the league. Instead, prominent drops have hampered an otherwise quiet year.

Cameron DaSilva over at FOX Sports had high expectations for Robinson as well, so he consequently listed the young receiver among the biggest disappointments of 2016.

"Robinson burst onto the scene in 2015, hauling in 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns in his second year as a pro. He looked like he’d be the next great receiver in the NFL, putting his name into discussions reserved for Odell Beckham Jr., Julio Jones, Dez Bryant and Antonio Brown. Robinson is still a supremely talented receiver, but he doesn’t have the take-over trait that Jones and those other players do. He doesn’t dominate a game the way the best do, and most of that falls on quarterback Bortles – but it’s partly Robinson’s doing, too.He has 549 yards on 48 receptions with just five touchdowns, putting him on pace to fall well short of his 2015 totals. He doesn’t have a single 100-yard game thus far after having six a year ago. There’s still time for him to elevate his game and surpass 1,000 yards, but he’s been underwhelming this season."

Part of Robinson’s struggles can be attributed to Bortles and his regression, but Robinson has had a handful of balls hit his hands and he’s seemingly quit on some routes. He needs to step it up over the final 7 games and overcome the shoddy quarterback play to be considered a top receiver again.
