There’s a lot of buzz surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars and it’s started to reach the biggest national media outlets.

Despite the 0-2 record in the preseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the most complete and efficient teams in football over the first two exhibition games. The first team offense looks improved from a 2015 season that saw numerous players take big leaps and the defense appears to be stockpiled with young talent ready to contribute right away.

Given all the excitement surrounding the team’s offseason acquisitions, it’s heartening to see the new additions pay dividends already. Consequently, the bandwagon is starting to get quite full as we head towards the regular season.

Peter King visited 20 teams over 4 weeks and

he came away impressed the most by the Jacksonville Jaguars:

"TEAM THAT IMPRESSED ME THE MOST: Jacksonville. Saw a Friday night stadium scrimmage, and this defense is finally looking like a playoff unit. Dante Fowler and Malik Jackson will be beasts, and the secondary, other than Jonathan Cyprien, is almost all new. Then there’s Year Three of Blake Bortles, who threw 35 touchdown passes last season, then spent lots of chemistry time with Allen Robinson (1,400 yards, 14 TDs last year) in the offseason. The Jags should be in contention for the AFC South title into late December."

Peter King is notorious for speaking in hyperbole, but he’s still a very well-versed football mind and generally knows what he’s talking about. To see he’s so impressed with Jacksonville in just a scrimmage is definitely a good sign.

Considering how well the first team offense and defense played in the first two preseason games, it’s hard not to think Peter is even more impressed.

King joins a host of other national analysts who think the Jaguars are ready to compete for the playoffs, overtaking the previously prevailing narrative that the Jaguars are “a year away” from making a splash. It’ll be interesting to see what the record predictions will be for the Jaguars when they come out in the coming weeks – I expect to see plenty of 9- to 10-win predictions.
