Jalen Ramsey’s fall to the Jacksonville Jaguars at fifth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft came with big expectations, which he appears ready to meet.

After missing out on the first preseason game due to a precautionary holdout as the Jacksonville Jaguar seek to keep Jalen Ramsey healthy, the Jags faithful finally got to see their 2016 first round pick in action in Week 2 of the preseason.

Ramsey did not disappoint.

Racking up three tackles, including one impressive tackle for a loss, Ramsey got on the board as a contributor. But he did more than simply deliver a few tackles in the game. He also displayed the key coverage skills that made him a coveted pick in this year’s draft.

The good folks over at Big Cat Country put together a highlight reel of Jalen Ramsey through the game, showcasing his ability and willingness to play run defense and also stay on top of opposing receivers. He played aggressively and with energy, which is exactly what fans hoped to see.

After the game, Ramsey wanted more. “If they come at me I’m going to make a play,” Ramsey said, “I’m going to beat the guy in front of me.” He added that the Jags brought him there to do just that.

Ready, willing, and able, Jalen Ramsey looks like the cornerback of our dreams. A key part of the revamped defense, Ramsey looks ready to put in the effort to match his impressive athleticism and become one of the most respected players at the position.

Still, it is only the preseason at this point. It would be wise to temper our optimism before seeing Ramsey put in a larger body of work.

And yet, he delivered already in the first game action of his career. He’s delivered exactly what we had hoped to see. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see even more great things in the coming years as he develops.
