One of the more low-key signings in recent memory, Roy Miller has been a solid player for the Jaguars over the last 3 years.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were big players in free agency this year, handing out huge contracts to Malik Jackson and Tashaun Gipson. These moves followed the big signings from 2015 (Julius Thomas, Jared Odrick, and Jermey Parnell), but these signings were a big change from general manager David Caldwell’s approach over his first 2 seasons at the helm.

When he took over in 2013, Caldwell knew he had a complete overhaul on his hands and the franchise was a few years away from being truly competitive. With this in mind, he only made prudent signings of underutilized veterans going into their second contract. Of those signings, Sen’Derrick Marks turned out to be a steal, but Roy Miller may have been the most impactful.

Tasked with playing the run-stuffing defensive end role, Miller hasn’t received a lot of attention because he doesn’t contribute much as a pass rusher. Regardless, Miller has been a force in the run game and a vital part of the Jaguars’ defensive scheme.

Miller hasn’t gone completely unnoticed, as Pete Prisco over at CBS Sports listed him as the most underrated player on the Jaguars.

"Roy Miller DT / Jacksonville Jaguars"

"As simply a run-stuffing nose, he doesn’t get a lot of attention. But he was a big reason why the Jaguars were solid against the run last season. He commands the double inside. There is nothing glamorous about the way he plays, but he is a good run defender."

Miller probably will never get much recognition but he’s going to start again for the Jaguars and maybe more people will start to notice him if the team has more success. He probably only has a another year or two left in Jacksonville but he’s done a good job.
