Myles Jack no longer an option at 5?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been linked with the top 3 defensive players through the entire draft process, with those 3 guys being Jalen Ramsey, Joey Bosa, and Myles Jack. In the last several weeks, analysts have linked Jack with the Jaguars the most for two reasons – he might be the best player in the entire draft and he’s an absolutely perfect fit in terms of scheme and need.

More from Jaguars Draft

Even the staff here at Black and Teal recently

chose Jack unanimously in our consensus mock draft.

With the draft only hours away however, it seems like Jack isn’t a possibility at all at number 5 for the Jaguars. Why? Recent reports about his knee are presumably scaring teams. Jack admitted the possibility of his knee limiting his career in some recent comments:

"Jack admitted as much Wednesday, telling The Post the microfracture procedure is a possibility and that he would understand if that causes him to plummet in the first round.“[The degenerative problems are] there, but it’s nothing extreme,” Jack said at an NFL event for prospects at Grant Park. “Down the line, possibly I could have microfracture surgery — potentially. Who knows what will happen?"

It’s refreshingly candid of Jack to talk so openly about a subject that could potentially cost him millions of dollars, but it does reaffirm some rumors about his knee.

In my opinion, this shouldn’t stop the Jaguars from drafting Jack if the team thinks they can get 5 or so healthy years from Jack. If his talent dictates he should be a top 5 pick, Jack’s playmaking ability for 5 years or however long is worth the risk.

That being said, I would not be upset at all if the Jaguars passed on Jack for Joey Bosa or Jalen Ramsey at 5. Either way, the Jaguars end up with an elite defensive player who can help the team immediately.
