Leonard Floyd a serious option for the Jacksonville Jaguars?
By Daniel Lago
It’s draft week and that means we’ll be seeing tons of mock drafts over the next few days, some containing a few wild cards thrown in just to rock the boat. The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to stand pat at number 5 overall and select one of the top defensive players, but the possibility of a trade down is always there.

General manager
David Caldwellhas traded up before (in the second and third round in 2014 to select
Allen Robinsonand
Brandon Linder), but never in the first round. Caldwell hasn’t shown a penchant to trade down however, so it would be mildly shocking if he started now, when the team so desperately needs elite defensive players.
Peter King over at MMQB thinks the Jaguars could do something a little odd – trade down with a division rival.
"Mock Trade: Jacksonville acquired this pick by moving from 5 to 15 in the first round with Tennessee.15. Jacksonville: Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia. If the Jags sit at five and take Floyd or Bosa or Buckner, or move down and luck out if Floyd’s still on the board, think of the difference along the front seven of the 2016 Jags from last season, when Jacksonville was arguably the worst third-down defense in football. What would be new: last year’s first-round pick, Dante Fowler Jr., returning from summer 2015 knee surgery; free-agent defensive end Malik Jackson, late of Denver; and a third potential major force. Floyd, the versatile rusher/cover man, is gaining traction late in the draft process. He could be the kind of all-around linebacker Jamie Collins is for New England."
King has the Jaguars receiving a 2nd and 3rd round pick from Tennessee to move down to 15. The Titans move up to take Laremy Tunsil, the guy they probably would’ve taken if they stayed at number 1.
The move seems kind of wacky, especially if the Jaguars have their pick of Joey Bosa and Myles Jack at number 5, but it’s justifiable if the teams thinks there are lots of talented players deep into the second and third round. Leonard Floyd at 15 is a solid choice as well, but the interesting part of King’s snippet there is the first sentence where he implies the Jaguars are considering Floyd at number 5 overall. That’s a completely new take and something that would really surprise everyone since Joey Bosa is the top pass rusher according to basically every draft analyst.
I don’t think Floyd is really in play at number 5, but he’s definitely on the radar if the Jaguars trade down. That said, I’d be surprised if the Jaguars didn’t choose a player at 5.
