If you believe Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles and wide receiver Allen Hurns, there is no better wide receiving duo in the NFL than the Allen Brothers.

Wide receivers Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson, and quarterback Blake Bortles. The trio make up one of the most exciting passing attacks in the NFL and, after two productive years together, they promise to only get better in the coming seasons.

In early April, Bortles called called his young duo the best in the business, boldly declaring it after a dominant season that saw Robinson and Hurns become the first Jacksonville Jaguars receivers to top 1000 yards in a decade. Both players are more than capable receivers, but calling them the best in the business when there are other tremendous players in the NFL is mostly hype.

It isn’t surprising to see rankings – like this one from Number Fire and this one from NFL.com – that put Hurns and  Robinson in the top five or top three of the NFL, so it isn’t shocking to get the hype train going well in advance of the 2016 season. The fact that Hurns and Robinson only have two years of experience thus far is a strong indication that they will only get better as they compete in coming seasons.

While it’s optimistic, it certainly isn’t ridiculous to call the Jags’ young receivers the best duo in the NFL, especially if looking forward.

Players like Hurns and Robinson are special. They help to define teams and give them a dynamic approach to offense, the likes of which the Jags have not had since Jimmy Smith hung up his cleats.

The Jags have confidence in themselves and that’s critical for their future success. Bortles’ declaration has been backed up by Hurns and the Jaguars are getting proper attention for it for one good reason: the play on the field backs up the talk. Kevin Patra at NFL.com sums it up nicely:

"Hurns and Robinson combined for 144 receptions, 2,431 yards and 24 touchdowns. They ranked sixth in combined catches among receivers, but third in yards and second in touchdowns. Both Marshall/Decker and Thomas/Sanders combos out gained them and the Broncos pair is the only to earn more TDs."

If the Jacksonville Jaguars maintain at least similar momentum from their 2015 aerial display, there’s no question Hurns and Robinson will still be considered among the league’s best pairings. But it’s likely they’ll just continue to get better.

With only two seasons under their belts, Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson have more promise as receivers than many teams find in a decade. They will be able to revolutionize the Jaguars through their play and turn the Jags into contenders. Even if the Jags’ duo is surpassed by others in the future, they will be doing more than enough for the Jaguars as a team.

The hype is real.

Believe it.
