Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns are the top receiving duo in the NFL
By Daniel Lago
After being stuck with first round bust after first round bust at wide receiver, the Jacksonville Jaguars finally found some answers in 2015. Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns shined in their sophomore seasons and showed they are the foundation for what could become on the best offenses in the entire league. The development of quarterback Blake Bortles is key to taking the next step, but Robinson and Hurns both demonstrated the ability to be playmakers and are perfect complements to one another in terms of play style and utility.
It took a while for it to sink in, but there really isn’t better duo in the NFL right now in terms of catching passes. Hurns and Robinson are both top 20, maybe top 15, receivers with Robinson having a case for being one of the 5 best in the NFL.

"2) Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, Jacksonville JaguarsThe Jaguars are quietly emerging as a playoff contender behind an electric offense that lights up scoreboards behind an explosive pair of young receivers in Robinson and Hurns. The two have quickly blossomed into a formidable pairing that delivers explosive gains and splash plays in bunches. Robinson, at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, is a crafty playmaker with exceptional ball skills and strong hands. He routinely wrestles 50-50 balls away from defenders, but also flashes the quickness, balance and body control to separate from tight coverage. With Robinson also rounding into a dynamic route runner, the Jaguars’ WR1 led the NFL with 31 receptions of 20-plus yards a season ago.Hurns has significantly outplayed his status as an undrafted free agent to become a prolific pass catcher. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder is one of only five active undrafted free agents to record 1,000-plus receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in a single season. As a clever route runner with impeccable timing and explosive short-area quickness, Hurns consistently separates from defenders on intermediate and vertical routes, particularly skinny post routes and speed corners or “sail” routes. Considering he is also a dangerous runner in the open field, Hurns gives the Jaguars a deadly playmaker at the WR2 spot.As Blake Bortles continues to grow into a franchise quarterback, the rest of the football world will start to appreciate Robinson and Hurns as one of the NFL’s scariest receiving duos."
Brooks has the Jaguars pair ranked behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker of the New York Jets. While that’s quite the formidable duo, I disagree with Brooks. Homerism or not, I honestly would rather have the downfield ability and aggressiveness of Allen Robinson over Marshall right now by a mile. Decker compared to Hurns is a more interesting discussion, but I don’t think the two players are far off from each other in terms of ability and overall impact. The Jaguars win out in the long run because they have wide receivers producing at this rate at a disturbingly young age (ARob is 22 and Hurns is 24).
Being ranked number 2 is still a great achievement, especially given the state of the receiver position over the last decade in Jacksonville.
The two receivers took note of these rankings, and they seem set on getting to the top.
