Allen Robinson Ready to Become 1,000 Yard Receiver

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been deprived of a star wide receiver for the better part of a decade now, but it’s not for lack of trying. After a couple of failed first round picks (Reggie Williams, Matt Jones) and some disastrous free agent signings (Jerry Porter), the Jaguars appear to have found a couple of young players who could develop into long term contributors in the passing game.

The guy with the most promising outlook heading into 2015 is second round pick Allen Robinson. After a rookie season that saw him flash big time playmaking ability, Robinson has been impressive in OTAs and minicamp. Heading into year 2, Michael Fabiano over at NFL has Robinson slated to go for 1,000 yards receiving, making him a solid fantasy football pick:

"It wouldn’t shock me if … Allen Robinson finishes with 1,000 yards for the Jaguars: Did you know that the Jaguars haven’t had a 1,000-yard wide receiver since 2005? Well, Robinson has a chance to break that trend in his second pro campaign. He has earned rave reviews during offseason workouts and is now the surefire No. 1 option in Jacksonville’s pass attack."

Despite a slow start to the year due to lingering injuries from the preseason, Robinson amassed 48 receptions and 548 receiving yards in 10 games before being shut down for the year. Prorated out to 16 games, that puts Robinson at 77 receptions and 877 yards for a full slate of games. With some accompanied improvement by Blake Bortles, there’s reason to believe Robinson can be the first Jaguars receiver to break the 1k mark since franchise-great Jimmy Smith.

So what’s a realistic stat line for Robinson heading into 2015? Considering how productive he was while playing limited snaps over the first 3 weeks of the year (before Bortles was thrown in as the starting quarterback), it’s not unthinkable that Robinson could put up numbers similar to someone like Alshon Jeffery in Chicago – around 80 receptions and 1,100 receiving yards.
