Jaguars’ QB, RB, WR Trio Near the Bottom of the League

Plagued with statistically the worst offense in the entire NFL last season, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a tough time staying in games for all 4 quarters last season. Rookie quarterback Blake Bortles and his ragtag group of young receivers and offensive lineman only managed to put up 20 or more points 4 times last season. As a result, the Jaguars only amassed 3 wins during the 2014 season.

It’s difficult to fault the guys on offense too much, as the team was forced to start upwards of 7 rookies at a time on that side of the ball. Blake Bortles was learning the ropes of playing in a pro style offense, rookie wide receivers Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee had to work to overcome injuries throughout the season, and the running back position was a mess.

So it should come as no surprise that Dave Dameshek over at NFL.com ranked the Jaguars pretty low in his recent post about “triplets“. In this context, “triplets” means the combination of QB, top RB, and top WR on each team. Clearly the Jaguars don’t have a strong case in that kind of novelty ranking, and Dameshek put them all the way down at 29.

"29) Jacksonville Jaguars: Blake Bortles, T.J. Yeldon & Marqise LeePrevious rank: No. 26Coming out of a football factory like Alabama, the talented Yeldon doesn’t have much wear and tear on his body. That’ll change behind the Jaguars’ crummy line. But with Bortles and sophomore breakout candidate Lee also in Jacksonville, things are at least headed in the right direction."

Right off the bat, Dameshek shows he’s not really very well informed about the Jaguars, as it’s ludicrous to rank Marqise Lee ahead of Allen Robinson by any metric. That being said, it’s hard to argue about where he has the Jaguars ranked. Bortles had a poor rookie season, and T.J. Yeldon hasn’t even taken a professional snap yet.

This is just another meaningless offseason ranking, but expect Blake Bortles and his crew to be ranked a decent bit higher in 2016.
