Jacksonville Jaguars Have Two Players on Pete Prisco’s Top 100

In the thick of the offseason, it’s about that time for analysts to come out with all-encompassing pieces that rank the players in the NFL and cause complete anarchy online. NFL Network is currently in the midst of their top 100 countdown, and the Jaguars made an appearance thanks to Sen’Derrick Marks.

Pete Prisco over at CBS Sports also subjects himself to the unenviable task of a top 100 ranking article, and this year he managed to find room for two Jacksonville Jaguars:

"67. Julius Thomas, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars: He had 12 touchdown catches last season, then got hurt, and it impacted his role with the Broncos. He signed with the Jaguars as a free agent. He is a tough matchup for any defense.72. Sen’Derrick Marks, DT, Jacksonville Jaguars: He finished with 8 1/2 sacks last season and was clearly the best player on the Jacksonville defense. He is fast and strong and does a nice job of pushing the pocket inside."

Yeah yeah, having Thomas on there as a member of the Jaguars feels a little like cheating, but who cares. The Jaguars made him their top priority this offseason for good reason, he’s one of the 3 best tight ends in the NFL and a force on offense. He should help elevate the Jacksonville offense to a respectable level in 2015.

Sen’Derrick Marks is ranked around the same spot as the NFL Network ranking, and it’s encouraging to see him finally get credit for what’s been 2 years of outstanding play. He’s the Jaguars best defensive player, and hopefully he’ll come back at full strength from his knee injury at the end of 2014.

It’s a step in the right direction, but the Jaguars clearly have a ways to go as a franchise. Obviously rankings like this are silly, but they certainly are representative of how renowned a particularly team is and how stocked they are with talent. Only having two players on a list of 100 isn’t going to correlate with the Jaguars being a playoff team. Pete Prisco is one of the few national writers with the requisite knowledge to give informed opinions of the Jaguars, and even he doesn’t have the Jaguars with more than 2 players in the top 100. Hopefully the Jaguars will have a lot more candidates for this list next year.
